I personally believe that mom is a very stong character. We this in chapter 3 on pg 91," Mam goes to the St. Vincent de Paul Society to see if theres any chance of getting furniture. They say we have to hall it home ourselfs." This shows us the extent that mom is willing to go to to provide for her family. She swallows her pride and goes to beg for assistance to be certain her family will survive.
Mom is a strong woman because first of all in the first chapter, she goes through a lot of things with her husband. For example, "We'll have to go down the Dock Road again to see if there's any coal or turf laying around from the lorries"(99). Mom is in need for coal and she would go down to get and steal some coal from the Dock Road
Angela to me seems like a very strong and harsh women. this is shown, when "Dad says, Lord above, Angela, you've destroyed the Pope's entirely, and she says, Arrah, stop your whining, we'll get some paint and go over his face some day"(pg93). this shown that she has the strength in her to be a hero.
In a way i think that Angela is a heroic woman because after she get to Ireland she dose what she can to have some thing to eat . " Mam take Malachy and me to the St.Vincent de Paul Society to stand in the queue and see if there's any chance of getting some thing for the Christmas dinner-a goose or a ham, but the man says everyone in Limerick is desperate this Christmas."(pg.97)
Angela is weak woman when it come to her husband been a drunk, she can stand seeing other husband come home and have food and extra for their wife's."Mam says, Why can't he be like the other men from the lanes of Limerick? They're home before the Angelus rings at six o'clock, they hand over their wages, change their shirts, have their tea, get a few shillings from the wife and they're off to the pub for a pint or two." (pg.145)
Mom can be consider a strong woman, her actions and everything she has gone through with the family has made her a strong. On chapter 3 Angela shows the courage and bravery she has, to do anything for her family."Mam goes to the St. Vincent de Paul Society to see if there's any chance of getting furniture.".She proves that she is willing to do aything for her family, even go thorugh shame begging others for help. Throughout the novel we know that Angela has to deal with her drunk husband and many worthless things he does spending his money."Why can't he be like the other men from the lanes of Limerick? they are home with the Angelus rings at six o' clock, they hand over their wages...." (145) When it comes to this situation she feel frustruated and disappointed because she hopes to have a husband that cares and looks forward to the good of the family.
( sorry doing my hw so late)
Mom is a very strong woman she shows her strength in many ways. one way that is shown through the whole book is her putting up with dad and everything he has put the family through. On page 179 mom says that shes going to move her bed to the kitchen because shes tired and she cant move.this shows moms strength because she has been doing so much and she still is doing so much more for the children.
"Mam" is a strong person that is trying to get family to move forward. "Next days she tell Dad to mind the twins and takes Malachy and me with her to the St. Vincent de Paul Society." When she gets there she tells them her sad life in order to get something handy for the family. When the twin dies mam is strong for Eugene. "Dad and Mam tell him oliver is in heaven and playing with the angels and we'll all see him again someday but he doesn't understand because he's only two..."
"Dad tells Mam he's going out for a walk. She says no."(page90) She has to be strong and lets him know that he will not spend money they need to survive on rum.
"ma goes to the St. Vincent de paul society to see if there's any chance of getting furniture.the man says hell give us a docket for a table, two chairs, and two beds. he says well have to go to a sedondhand furniture shop down in the irishtown and haul the furniture ourselves.""dam tells mam hes going out for a walk. she says no. she knows what hes up to, that he cant wait to spwnd his last few shillings in the pub. all right. he lights the fire and mam makes tea and soon were in bed."
i in my personal belief, believe that mom is a very strong character, she puts away the shame, some people are ashamed of accepting things tha you didnt buy. they refused because if will bring down there social status, but ma doesnt she puts it away and shows that now matter what she is strong for their needs no matter the consequences or shame them must go through. mom also tells dad that he must not go to the pub and waste those shillings because they will serve the family. she says no and dad listen and soon they are all in bed wiht a few extra shillings that can be useful
